Franz Kline

Born 1910 and Died 1962

He is part of the abstract expressionist movement around the 40’s, 50’s.

Other creative professionals during that time were known as the informal group called the NY School.

Boston University and Heatherley School of Fine Art are the two schools he went to study. Later in his carrer he taught at a number of places including Pratt Institute.

He worked at a department store as a designer in NYC. It was the time being in NYC where he learned his artistic recognition of being an artist.

He started out with normal illustrations but he was more interested in breaking things down to fast brush movements.

He became friends with de Kooning who was a influence on Kline.

He did not just do BW paintings he did do color but liked the BW style.

In the fall of 1950, was his first show in the city.

Tracy Party for Chatham's 150th

This is the first even of many to help celebrate the Village of Chatham’s birthday. Friends of the Tracy as well as other towns members helped put on this event. Summer fest this year is going to have lots going on, bigger then last year. they will also be other events as well.

Andy Warhol


Born 1928 and died 1987

His art mediums were- silkscreen, painting, films, photo, sculpture. But well known for his silkscreens. He also did directing and producing.

Before he became the artist, he was a commercial, advertisement illustrator as you can tell that played a big part in his art work, some people would say he was more of a commercial artist then a real artist because of the work he made.

He started having his work shown in the early 50’s in NYC and CA. In the 60’s is when he started doing his more famous pieces like the soup cans, CocaCola, Marilyn, Elvis and many more. Also in the 60’s is when he made his studio “ The Factory” where he had all his creative friends.

He would hire people to assist him with his work as well as collaborate with other like minded people, like his good friend Basquiat.

Gordan Parks


Born 1912 and died 2006

He was more then just a photographer, he was also a musician, writer and a film director.

With his photography he photographed fashion as well as photojournalism, focusing on how African Americans lived during the 40’s-70’s. He also worked with vogue as a photographer.

Being one of the first African American’s to produce and direct a major movie called Blaxpoitiantion.

While being a writer he wrote essays for LIFE as well as being an author to poems and writing music. Also writing a few books such as his biography ( A Hungry Heart).

One of his photography jobs was to document life in diffrent situations for the FSA (Farm Security Administration)
