Brian Donnelly (KAWS)


Born 1974 (46 years old)

Artist and designer working with 2D and 3D. He has collaborated with many celebrities and brands and has his work in galleries and museums as well as private collections. His work a mix of street art as well as contemporary.

He would use the tag KAWS in his graffitii as would also take bus stop ads and paint on top of them and put them back.

He went to the school of visual arts in NYC and got a bachelor of fine arts in illustration 1996. He also worked for one of Disneys animation studios during the day.

1999 he made his first toy/sculpture.

He uses pop culture as his inspiration, he has sold work at Sothby’s.

Mark Tobey


Born 1890 and Died 1976 (85 years old

American painter his inspiration is from Asian calligraphy, resemble Abstract expressionism. He is a founder of a school  Northwest School. mostly self-taught after early studies at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1921, Tobey founded the art department at The Cornish School in Seattle, Washington.

He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1906 to 1908, but, like others of the Northwest School, was mostly self-taught.

1911, he moved to NYC where he worked as a fashion illustrator for McCall's.

1917 his first one-man show was held at Knoedler & Company in Manhattan.

He met Teng Kuei, a Chinese painter and student at the University of Washington, where he exploration of Chinese calligraphy.

 co-founded the Free and Creative Art School in Seattle with Edgar Ames, and in autumn, he taught an advanced art course at Emily Carr's Victoria studio.

1929, he participated in a show that marked a change in his life: a solo exhibition at Romany Marie's Cafe Gallery.

1931, Tobey became a resident artist of the Elmhurst Progressive School.

 Japanese authorities confiscated and destroyed an edition of 31 drawings on wet paper that Tobey had brought with him from England to be published in Japan

Tobey expected to return to teaching in England in 1938.he began to work on the Federal Art Project, under the supervision of Inverarity.

1942, Tobey's process of abstractionism was accompanied by a new calligraphic experiment.

He also spent three months as guest critic of graduate students' work at Yale University on the invitation of Josef Albers.

he became the first American painter to exhibit at the Pavillon de Marsan in Paris.

Georges Seurat


Born 1859 and Died 1891 (31 years old

French post-impressionist artist, known for his  chromoluminarism as well as pointillism.

He first studied art at École Municipale de Sculpture et Dessin. 1878 he moved towards the École des Beaux-Arts where he was taught by Henri Lehmann, where he learned conventional academic training, drawing from casts of antique sculpture and copying drawings by old masters.

Brest Military Academy, he returned to Paris where he shared a studio with his friend Aman-Jean.he worked at mastering the art of monochrome drawing.

His first show at the Salon, of 1883.

He also studied Eugène Delacroix carefully, making notes on his use of color.

1883 working on his first major painting—a large canvas titled Bathers at Asnières. 1884 began work on A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte which took 2 years.

Hans-Peter Feldmann


Born 1941 (79 years old)

German conceptual artist, approach to art-making is one of collecting, ordering and re-presenting.

He went to  University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz in Austria in the 60’s.

1968 production of his first small handmade books.

1979 decided to walk away from the art world, He destroyed and gave away the work he had in his possession.

till 1989 when he had a show agin.

His work is from repurposing found things like amateur snapshots, prints and many other found works.

He made groups of photos like women’s clothing and shoes, sea scapes. He also made small books of these images as well.

2010 work a Hugo Boss prize a recognizing significant achievement in contemporary art.

2011 solo exhibition at the Guggenheim.

Taking famous white statues and making them color.

Famous Artist #20

Jasper Johns


Born 1930 and is 89 years old

American painter, sculptor and print maker whose in abstract expressionist, neo-dada and pop art style. He is known for his American related topics.

He did one and a half years at Univerity of South Carolina and then went to Parsons School of Design. He was stationed to Japan during the Korean war.

1954 went back to NY and met Rauschenberg and they both lived in the same building as Merce Cunningham and John Cage, They all explored the contemporary art scene and came up with ideas.

1958 gallerist Leo Castelli discovered his work in Rauschenberg’s studio. He had his first solo show at Leo’s gallery.

His most known work is the Flags after having a dream of the American flag. A lot of people would call it pop art but it can be considered Neo-Dadaist. He did a lot of work with flags, maps, targets, numbers and letters.

He makes his sculptures in wax first and then bronze and then keeps working on the surface. They were of every day objects for the most part.
